D A D

My dad passed away at 9pm on Saturday evening.  I was expecting him to go at any time but nonetheless it was still a shock when I got the call from my sister on Sunday morning.  Dad (Mick) was 76 years old.  Thankfully both my sisters were with him when he died.  Unfortunately it was a painful passing and I am just glad that at least now he is at rest and not in pain anymore.

I have the greatest of respect for both my sisters as they have both been at dad’s bedside since Christmas Day, choosing to care for him at home rather than send him to hospital which is the last thing he would have wanted.  Dad only has a 1 bed flat so my sisters have slept on the floor.  It helped of course that my sister Julia is a fully registered nurse and Louise has been a carer, but still, it can’t have been easy seeing my dad in his last days especially as its only been 3 months since my mum passed away.

Not the best start to 2014 but we all knew what was coming.  I did deliberate going down to see dad in-between Christmas and the New Year but I had a lovely visit with my dad late November and that’s how I want to remember him.  His death hasn’t really affected me, not like it did with my mum, but then we weren’t really that close.  My dad wasn’t a very remarkable man, for the last 20 years he has been a misery guts and talked often about wanting to die.  But he was my dad; he had a kind heart and wouldn’t have hurt a soul.  Rest in peace dad, I’ll see you up there x x x
