Our trip was supposed to be from 9am until 4am and Claire had booked dinner at our Riad with a bottle of wine. Of course, we couldn’t be picked up at our Riad and had to walk to the chemist where cars can get to. He actually picked us up at 8.50am which was good but we had to change buses at the square 30 minutes later so it wasn’t so good after all. Then we had to drive for about 20 minutes to a posh hotel for the last pick up down dreadful lanes so we didn't get away until 10am. We stopped off by some camels for unknown reasons, maybe it was for a cigarette break.
No sooner had we got back on the bus and got started but we stopped again, this time at a traditional mud house with all the rooms laid out as they would have been in the old days. I guess that some houses are still like that now; we spotted some slum places made from corrugated tin and anything else they could find but they all had massive satellite dishes. We got going again but then stopped for lunch by the side of a river. All the restaurants are on the other side of the river with rickety bridges going across. Strange really because they cook the food on this side as well and carry it all across when its ready.
We both had a tagine but there wasn’t really any other choice. It was a 3 course and I had an omelet for starter while Claire had the tomato salad.
We started our long climb up the mountain. Nobody had told us that we had to climb anywhere or warned us to bring sturdy shoes. The further up we got the steeper and harder the climb got. By the time we got to a massive boulder and had to climb over that several people turned back.
The entire way down the river had home made bridges; I could only imagine that the land was much cheaper on the mountain side of the river. We paid 200 Dirhams each for our trip but if you book through the hotel they charged €25 each which is considerably more.
We witnessed a lovely sunset on the way back. I took this through the window as we were traveling over rough ground so forgive the quality. We were supposed to get back for 4pm but it was after 6pm by the time we got to the main square. He couldn't take us home because the army and police had sectioned off the Palace as the King was staying there. So we had to walk the 25 minutes back to our Riad and only just made it for 6.30 when Claire had booked it for. Of course there was no time for a shower so we had dinner first and showered after. Barely time to tell you all of our adventures.
