Major Majorca

Majorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands along with Minorca, Ibiza and Formentera.  It originally derives from Latin for Major while Minorca derives from Latin for Minor.  Not much is recorded about the ancient history of the earliest inhabitants of the Islands but burial chambers and traces of inhabitation from around 6 to 8000 years ago have been discovered.  Particularly prehistoric settlements called talaiots or talayots.  They are Bronze Age megaliths forming part of the Talaiotic Culture.  After that we had the usual, Roman, Muslim and German invasions but I wont bother you with those.

We have booked a short 5 day break away with my Mum to give her a break.  Its another of my cheapie specials.  We are staying on the East of the Island in Callas de Majorca.  Its all inclusive so it includes all your food and drink.  I know, normally you get fed up with the food after a couple of days but we have three adjacent hotels that we can use the facilities for including restaurants so we shouldn't get chance to get fed up in a few days.

We have a crap flight out from Luton on Sunday night and don't get to our hotel until Monday morning but it will give me a chance to pick mum up from Melton and return.  Mum is looking forward to it, although she is worried about her tomato plants while we are away.  I told her to leave them outside as they will get plenty of rain.

I believe this picture to be of our three hotels but will  have to wait and see for sure.  Just a short introduction, I should be putting a blog on each day if all goes well, along with photo’s of our trip.  I don't expect that we will be doing much other than taking it easy around the hotels and making the most of our allinclusivity;  hope Mum can keep up!
